Singapore's Education System


 Kindergartens provide a structured 3-year pre-school education programme for children aged 3 to 6. Children take part in activities that  develop  language and literacy skills,basic number concepts, simple science concepts, social skills, creative and problem solving skills,  appreciation of  music and movement and outdoor play. 

Primary Education 

 Primary Education consists of a 4 year foundation stage and 2 year orientation stage to give students a good grasp of English language,  Mother  Tongue and Mathematics. Students will take a National examination: Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) at the end of their  6th year.  

Secondary Education

 Secondary Edicaiton places students in the Special, Express, Normal Academic or Normal Technical courses according to their PSLE performance.  Students take part in the National examination: GCE 'O' Levels (for Special / Express courses) or GCE 'N' Level (for Normal courses).                

Pre-University Education

 Pre-University Education prepares students for the GCE 'A' Level examination at the end of the 2 year Junior College or 3 year Centralised  Institute courses.

Institutes of Technical Education (ITEs)
 Institutes of Technical Education (ITEs) ensure that its graduates have the technical knowledge and skills that are relevant to industry. ITEs are  the national authority for hte setting of skill standards and the certification of skills in Singapore.
Private Insitutions The state is hte principal provider of education at pre-university levels. In the case of non-formal educaiton, the private sector plays the  complementary role of running 
 The National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University are Singapore's state-  owned universities. A 4th university will be set up to cope with the increasing number of students seeking university education.
